Summary
The Tax Manager is responsible for keeping the business compliant with various local, state, federal, and international tax regulations. This individual will implement measures and develop policies for dealing with various areas relating to taxes.
Responsibilities
- Works with the team to assess the impact of the organization’s taxes and reduce the organization's tax debt.
- Works to ensures that the organization adheres to all federal, state, local, or international tax laws.
- This position will manage the retention and preparation of tax records, tax returns, and other required reports.
- Plans and organizes Federal & State tax compliance, and tax department policies & procedures.
- In addition, responsible for research and documentation of Federal & State tax issues as well as planning opportunities focused on minimizing the tax impact to the company through the research, development and implementation of tax planning strategies.
- Responsible for all aspects of the preparation of the consolidated US federal and state income tax returns, extensions and estimated payments.
- Prepare the quarterly and annual tax provisions and the evaluation of tax positions.
- Oversee the preparation of state sales tax returns.
- Provide analysis of specific tax impacts of certain company transactions, support tax planning initiatives and special projects such as business acquisitions, and provide client service by responding to questions from the regions and monitoring tax law changes.
- Prepare tax rate forecasts throughout the year, including federal and state effective tax rates and other items having a tax rate impact.
- Review quarterly and annual financial reporting of taxes and tax footnote disclosures.
- Coordinate federal and state corporate income tax audits and assist the regions with their sales tax audits.
- Manage state report filings.
- Participate and assist with Financial Statement Reporting, including necessary financial statement disclosures.
- Manage all aspects of Federal, State & Local income/franchise tax audits and the development of supporting positions and documentation of issues arising under such audits.
- Participate and assist in the tax planning and special projects, including the assessment, recommendation and implementation of Federal, State, Local tax planning strategies, mergers, acquisitions, etc.
- Manage directly outside tax consultants and other third party relationships.
- Support & monitor legislative activities and the impact on the company.
- Assist Finance/Accounting teams with tax related financial statement issues.
- Develop and maintain inter-company agreements, including the review of calculations by accounting, as well as advice on the form and timing of the settlement of inter-company transactions.
- Assist with the establishment, liquidation or merger of corporate entities, including maintaining the legal entity organizational structure and related supporting documentation.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the policies and procedures related to the tax department.
- Assist in the development and support of systems enhancements, improvements and updates.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, and 5+ years prior experience tax environment.
- Multi-location experience preferred.
- Must be a proven analytical thinker with the ability to take initiative.
- Strong work ethic and ability to problem solve independently.
- Manage all aspects of Federal, State & Local income/franchise tax compliance, including: maintenance of the compliance tax calendar, determination of nexus and related filing requirements, management of tax return preparation and detailed review of all domestic tax returns and estimated tax payments.
- Ability to multi-task and drive results.
- Proficient knowledge of basic software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
- Ability to conduct research using various sources including BNA, CCH, etc. and effectively communicate results in the form of discussion, presentation or technical memorandum.
- Background in Federal, State, Local, and International taxation and compliance.
- Ability to manage projects and meet tight deadlines.

Compensation Range: $107,000.00 - $161,000.00, plus bonus.
