Microbiologist Intern

Summary

Chobani is looking for a microbiologist with experience in microbiology / yeast biology to assist the Chobani Labs team in North Brunswick, NJ. Our Chobani Labs department is in the forefront of innovation and product development. We’ve got an insatiable appetite for making a difference. The microbiologist will conduct research and help collaboration between scientists to develop new products at Chobani. Under the supervision of a senior scientist, this role will work on the platform that advances projects within Chobani’s discovery pipeline and conduct hypothesis-driven research.

Responsibilities

•    Research scientific methods to design and execute experiments, analyze and interpret results, and establish defined next steps for product development in support of company objectives.
•    Utilize statistical software to generate experimental design, interpret results, document and analyze relevant data.
•    Maintain strong sense of scientific/technology knowledge and current developments in the field by staying up to date on literature.
•    Communicate outcomes of studies to leadership.
•    Prepare technical transfer documentations and communicate with Operations for downstream process development and production support.
•    Follow Chobani’s safety procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices

Requirements

The requirements of this position include:
•    BS with 2+ years of industrial experience or MS with 0+ years of industrial experience (desirable). 
•    Field of study: systems biology, microbiology, mycology or similar fields with a strong background and experience in yeast.
•    Familiar with bench scale fermentation using shake flasks and bioreactors.
•    Experience with screening assays is highly desired.
•    Basic understanding of yeast genetics, growth trends, feed/media.
•    Prior experience in liquid handling/robotics is desirable.
•    Some experience in cell banking, glycerol stock maintenance, transformation, transfection is desirable.
•    Proven ability to work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams to coordinate the transfer of bench scale knowledge through scale-up.
