Summary

The Roasting Lead Operator is responsible for supporting daily operations in the roasting department. The roasting lead will be the first in line to assist roasters and roasting assistants ensuring schedules and quality standards are met. This position requires documentation in SAP and management of recipes and roast profiles. The ideal candidate should be able to operate, adjust and troubleshoot machinery as needed.

Schedule: 6:00 am - 6:30 pm, 2-2-3 12 hour shift

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily production operations, ensuring schedules are met and quality standards are maintained.
  • Train new production staff and provide ongoing coaching to existing employees to enhance their skills and productivity.
  • Interact with SAP ensuring production logs and transactions are accurate.
  • Experience in Startup, Shutdown and Center lining Equipment to ensure proper production cycles and lots.
  • Fulfill all duties or responsibilities of a Roaster, including but not limited to 
    • Assist Roasting Manager in receiving green coffee to meet daily production schedule.
    • Participate in blending and weighing roasted coffee while maintaining great quality and adhering to visual standards set forth by La Colombe.
    • Overseeing and tracking inventory of green coffee beans, bags and other production materials.
    • Develop necessary product knowledge (Coffee names, bag weights, etc).
    • Operate grinders, green loaders and roasters.
    • Perform daily maintenance for optimum machine capability on Diedrich and Brambati roasters and other roasting accessories.
  • Ensure the completion of designated shift tasks like scheduled PMs, production goals and equipment cleaning.
  • Communicate changes in production, equipment malfunctions, material shortages, etc to Supervisors and Managers
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of roasting processes and machine operating in order to meet production goals and minimize cost downtime.
  • Keep a neat and orderly work area.
  • Wear all required PPE and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Offer general support to all warehouse and packaging associates.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours and overtime on weekends and holidays.

Requirements

  • Min. 1 Year experience operating PIT Equipment (Forklifts / Pallet Jacks)
  • 6 months of roasting or machine operating experience required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in group settings.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to reach above shoulder level, climb, balance, kneel, bend over, etc.
  • The ability to use hands and fingers to assemble small objects, boxes, etc.
  • Be physically active for 12 hours without becoming fatigued or out of breath.
  • Stand for 12 hours a day.
  • Frequently lift and or move 40+ pounds
  • Occasionally lift and or move 75+ pounds
  • Frequently push 300-400 lbs on a rolling cart, sometimes at an incline.

The salary range for this full-time position is $29.50 - $42.00, + bonus + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
