EHS Manager

Summary

The selected candidate will provide overall EHS site leadership during the construction and commissioning of the Rome Facility. Once construction is completed this role will transition to the site EHS manager. This role directly interfaces with all levels of the organization and is key to ensuring the site meets or exceeds expected results and performance metrics. This role will report directly to the Vice President of EHS with a strong dotted line to the Site VP of Operations and Site Project Management Group. This position is onsite in Rome, NY. 

Responsibilities

  • Greenfield Construction working alongside selected GC who will control the site. This role will be acting on Chobani’s behalf to ensure a strong EHS culture is embedded in the process
  • Oversight of all EHS programs for onsite contractors and sub-contractors. This includes Site Orientation and onboarding or Contractors, Cranes, Hoists and Rigging, Excavation, Operation of Heavy Equipment, Confined Spaces, Hearing Protection, Respiratory Protection, Welding Safety, Working @ Heights, PPE Compliance, Chemical Safety, Fire Prevention, Electrical Safety, Scaffolding, Silica Exposures, Construction SWPPP compliance.
  • Ensure compliance to 29 CFR 1926
  • Daily audits and risk reviews of onsite work
  • Perform risk assessments on operational and system designs and advice on risk mitigation strategies 
  • Responsibility for injury/incident management including claim reporting, investigations and root cause analysis
  • During construction contractors will fall under a Chobani provided OCIP. The EHS manager will be responsible for cost mitigation and risk control to limit the financial impact to the company. 
  • Attend FATs and design review meetings to ensure Chobani EHS standards are met will regards to equipment, design and layout of the facility

Commissioning and Start Up

  • Deployment of a detailed onboarding EHS training program for start up
  • Development and implementation of all site EHS Programs, these include: Hazardous Energy Control Program, Confined Space Entry, Working at Heights, Bloodborne Pathogens, Electrical Safety Program, Chemical Management, Hearing Conservation, Hot Work, PIT Safety, PSM, Respiratory Protection, Emergency Action Plan, Radiation Safety, SPCC, RMP, Form R, Teir II, SWPPP, Waste Water Permit with the city of Rome, Air Registration with NYDEC
  • Implementation of Safety critical SOPs for front line employees

Operation

  • Provide direction and supervision to the site safety team that may include an EHS Supervisor, EHS Coordinator and Site Occupational Nurse.
  • Provide direction, coaching and collaborate with site supervisors, managers, and directors on how to manage and obtain desired results within the safety programs.
  • Provide direction and oversight to routine environmental compliance programs including, but not limited to: air emissions, waste water permits, storm water containment, hazardous waste disposal and chemical & fuel storage.
  • Ensure implementation and continuous improvement to all safety related programs and policies including, but not limited to: Hazardous Energy Control Program, Confined Space Entry, Working at Heights, Bloodborne Pathogens, Electrical Safety Program, Chemical Management, Hearing Conservation, Hot Work, PIT Safety, PSM, Respiratory Protection, Emergency Action Plan  and Radiation Safety 
  • Collaborate with engineering and other departments on new projects or repair work to ensure safety & environmental requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to develop, track and manage key performance indicators both lagging and leading that help drive results.
  • Collaborate with other Chobani locations to ensure consistent application of standards and best practices.
  • Assist in and help coordinate use of safety capital funds designated to reduce risk and injuries at the site
  • Manage and oversee site safety training program to ensure OSHA and Company policy requirements
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Requirements

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) 
  • 6-8 years’ experience with emphasis on safety culture development.
  • Bachelors or master’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Management, or a related field 
  • Detailed understanding of both part 1910 and part 1926 of the 29 CFR
  • Leadership skills to direct and grow the safety performance at the site through others.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft based software. (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to work flexible hours to provide support and guidance to the plant across all shifts and work schedules.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate results and opportunities.
  • Ability to work onsite in Rome, NY. If not local, will require a relocation.

Compensation Range: $94,000.00 - $141,000.00, plus bonus.
