Summary

This position is responsible for leading the instrumentation, controls, and automation functions within the facility. The Instrumentation and Controls Lead oversees the daily activities of the Instrumentation and Controls Specialists, ensuring effective troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of industrial and commercial automation systems. The incumbent possesses expert-level technical knowledge and leadership ability, applying advanced skills in electrical, instrumentation, and control system technologies to resolve complex issues. This role provides direction, technical guidance, and mentorship to team members, coordinates work priorities, and supports plant-wide automation initiatives. The Lead partners closely with the Senior Automation and Controls Supervisor to ensure system reliability, adherence to standards, and alignment with safety, regulatory, and production goals.

Qualified applicants must possess hands-on experience leading technical teams in troubleshooting and maintaining manufacturing production equipment and control systems. They must demonstrate expert knowledge of PLC systems, instrumentation calibration methods, and automation software platforms. The Lead must ensure compliance with all established safety, GMP, and environmental standards and adhere to all plant technical standards. Additionally, this position must comply with all federal, state, local, and company regulations, including OSHA, FDA, EPA, and SQF. This role has a responsibility for ensuring both the food safety and quality of Chobani product.
 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support Instrumentation and Controls Specialists in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of automation systems and control devices.
  • Provide hands-on technical expertise for PLC, HMI, and instrumentation systems, ensuring high equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Prioritize and assign daily calibration, maintenance and project work to team members in alignment with production needs.
  • Calibrate, configure, and repair plant instrumentation and control devices (Pressure, Flow, Level, Temperature, etc.).
  • Develop, maintain, and redline automation-related documentation including PLC programs, HMI programs, electrical drawings, P&IDs, pin charts, and sequences of operation.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve advanced electrical and automation-related system issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all electrical codes, safety procedures, and company standards.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Automation and Controls Supervisor on project planning, resource coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide training, coaching, and development opportunities to Instrumentation and Controls Specialists and other maintenance personnel.
  • Act as the primary technical resource for escalated controls and automation issues during all shifts.
  • Coordinate vendor and contractor activities related to automation system upgrades and installations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of preventive maintenance programs for control and instrumentation systems.
  • Champion best practices in automation, reliability, and system integration; share knowledge across facilities.
  • Support plant engineering and operations teams on equipment commissioning, system validation, and improvement projects.
  • Ensure all control systems and documentation comply with regulatory, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Follow Chobani’s safety procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices.

Requirements

  • 6–8 years of electrical, PLC, and instrumentation experience working in an industrial or manufacturing facility.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience leading or mentoring technical personnel.
  • Associate degree in Controls, Automation, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field required, or combination of experience and instrumentation certifications; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of PLC systems troubleshooting and programming, specifically focused on Allen Bradley (RSLogix500, RSLogix5000, Studio5000).
  • Strong knowledge of HMI systems focused on Rockwell FactoryTalk View ME/SE.
  • Broad understanding of automation networks, control devices, and instrumentation equipment.
  • Proficiency in using electrical diagrams, process flow diagrams, and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Experience in maintaining calibration standards, procedures, and records.
  • Intermediate knowledge of personal computers, calibration software, and Windows operating systems.
  • Ability to effectively lead and collaborate with personnel of different backgrounds and skill levels.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and ensure timely execution of work.

Compensation Range: $39.50 - $54.25, plus bonus.
