Sanitation Manager

Summary

The purpose of the Sanitation Manager role is to ensure that the Sanitation Department is properly and adequately maintaining a sanitary product/environment at the Chobani facility.  The Sanitation Manager will guide exempt and non-exempt employees to ensure that the duties and tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.  The Sanitation Manager will follow all applicable GMP, food safety practices and safety guidelines (including chemical handling), and will provide training, people development, guidance and corrective action as needed.  The Sanitation Manager will track and manage key department KPI’s. 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper sanitation safety requirements are met and employees are trained and follow procedures
  • Ensure the established sanitation practices, SOPs, SSOPs, OPLs and other procedures are followed to protect quality and food safety of product. Review and update periodically and as needed
  • Monitor environmental, in process and finished goods micro results and make appropriate RCA, corrective action and follow-up
  • Establish goals for employees; guide employees for development and improvement
  • Be able to build a strong team rooted in accountability, commitment, integrity, agility and passion for sanitation
  • Attend pre-shift meetings with SA Supervisor & department staff. Hold periodical department meetings with Supervisors
  • Communicate any issues or concerns between other departments and the Sanitation Department
  • Responsible for handling any HR issues, including but not limited to: hiring, advancements and performance feedback, develop training, PIP and development plans as needed, issue coaching forms, suspensions, and terminations
  • Audit the work and quality of work of all Sanitation Department hourly employees; follow-up as needed (provide guidance and/or training)
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and provide training as needed to Sanitation Supervisors
  • Accountable for the proper sanitation of the entire plant, including micro environment and pest elimination
  • Verify the cleaning of all filler equipment and surrounding environment after filler Sanitation is complete, prior to pre-op inspection
  • Validate that all periodical cleaning of areas are completed and documented as per MSS
  • Validate that all daily and weekly job duties and tasks are completed and documented accordingly
  • Track/Report and manage MSS, drain cleaning, and CIP validation, labor and chemical spend.
  • Oversee general site cleanliness with the expectation of being inspection ready 24/7
  • Support internal and external audits and establish appropriate corrective actions and follow-up
  • Ensure compliance with all legal/regulatory requirements concerning dairy processing, safety and working conditions
  • Coordinate with sanitation supplier and pest elimination and manage performance
  • Perform routine sanitation/safety/quality audits
  • Provide reports, presentations and trainings as needed
  • Identify sanitation cost saving and/or process improvement opportunities continually
  • Stay informed of new technologies and innovations related to the sanitation and food safety industry 
  • Attend external training as required
  • Delegate work appropriately
  • Communicate and escalate to senior leaders appropriately
  • Expected Travel: 1-2 weeks a year
     

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or related field and/or 5+ years experience in Dairy/Food sanitation
  • Specialized food safety and sanitation training
  • Leadership experience in a food manufacturing plant, dairy experience preferred
  • Experience in SQF, FSMA, HACCP and/or other food safety programs
  • Proficient with Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and computer/technology skills
  • Intermediate+ math skills
  • Strong capability for problem solution management
  • Organized, can sets priorities; meets deadlines; able to manage several projects and priorities at a time; attention to detail and quality of work.
  • Maintain good customer relations with all departments and vendors 
  • Ability to work autonomously, leading and developing a team
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, the ability to interact professionally with a wide diversity of people and remain calm and appropriate even in stressful situations
  • Cooperation, Team Work, and Self Directed Job Ownership is expected at all times
